Joint US Geological Survey, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission workshop on research related to low-level radioactive waste disposal, May 4-6, 1993, National Center, Reston, Virginia; Proceedings
This report contains papers presented at the "Joint U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Technical Workshop on Research Related to Low-Level Radioactive Waste (LLW) Disposal" that was held at the USGS National Center Auditorium, Reston, Virginia, May 4-6, 1993. The objective of the workshop was to provide a forum for exchange of information, ideas, and technology in the geosciences dealing with LLW disposal. This workshop was the first joint activity under the Memorandum of Understanding between the USGS and NRC's Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research signed in April 1992. Participants included invited speakers from the USGS, NRC technical contractors (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories and universities) and NRC staff for presentation of research study results related to LLW disposal. Also in attendance were scientists from the DOE, DOE National Laboratories, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, State developmental and regulatory agencies involved in LLW disposal facility siting and licensing, Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL), private industry, Agricultural Research Service, universities, USGS and NRC.

Ground water contamination by crude oil, and other petroleum-based liquids, is a widespread problem. An average of 83 crude-oil spills occurred per year during 1994-96 in the United States, each spilling an average of about 50,000 barrels of crude oil (U.S. Office of Pipeline Safety, electronic commun., 1997). An understanding of the fate of organic contaminants (such as oil and gasoline) in the subsurface is needed to design innovative and cost-effective remedial solutions at contaminated sites.

Proceedings of the Black-footed Ferret & Prairie Dog Workshop, September 4-6, 1973
Both State and Federal agencies have been working with the black-footed ferret and prairie dog during the past few years. Much of the work is not extensive enough for publication in scientific journals and is, therefore, not reported. The objective of this Workshop was to bring workers together for discussion of the current status of the two species. Each of the Conservation Departments in the states and provinces within the former range of the prairie dog and the black-footed ferret was invited to participate. Federal agencies were also invited to report on current programs in progress on public lands.

Proceedings of the ninetieth stated meeting of the American Ornithologists' Union
The Ninetieth Stated Meeting of the American Ornithologists' Union was held 14-18 August 1972 at Grand Forks, North Dakota, under the sponsorship of the University of North Dakota and the North Dakota Natural Science Society. Business and technical sessions were held on the campus of the University; some social activities were held at the Westward Ho Motel. Daylong field trips were taken to Lake Itasca, Minnesota, State Park and to saline lakes and prairie potholes in central North Dakota. A longer post-meeting trip to western North Dakota was offered.
Proceedings of the ninety-first stated meeting of the American Ornithologists' Union
The Ninety-first Stated Meeting of the American Ornithologists' Union was held 8-12 October 1973 at Provincetown, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, under the sponsorship of the Nuttall Ornithological Club, which was celebrating its centennial year. Business, technical, and social sessions were held in the Provincetown Inn. Field trips were taken to various localities on Cape Cod.
