The work of the Geological Survey is performed under the direction of the Secretary of the Interior. At the beginning of each fiscal year a plan of operations for such year is prepared by the Director, and laid before the Secretary. This, if approved by him, becomes in effect the general order for the year's work. The plan of operations for the fiscal year 1893—'94 was submitted by the Director to the honorable the Secretary of the Interior, May 4, 1893, and was approved by him June 16, 1893. The following is that plan as approved, in accordance with which the work covered by this report was performed.
