Surface water-quality activities of the U.S. Geological Survey in New England

Abstract

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collaborates with a variety of Federal, State, local, and tribal partners on scientific projects to provide reliable and impartial water-quality data and interpretation to resource managers, planners, stakeholders, and the general public. The themes related to surface water quality include the following: • Water quality monitoring networks • Effects of best management practices and low impact development on water quality • Load estimation techniques and total maximum daily load assistance • Mercury studies • Toxics and emerging contaminants • Eutrophication and nuisance algal blooms

Global Fiducials Library

Introduction The Earth changes continuously in response to natural processes and human activity. The collection and interpretation of time-series imagery enhances our ability to observe and monitor Earth’s dynamic processes as well as study and understand the rapidly changing surface of our planet. The Global Fiducials Library (GFL) provides repeated satellite imagery of selected locations around the world to help scientists observe, document, and better understand those changes over time.
