The Arizona District water data report includes records on both surface water and ground water in the State for water year 2002. Specifically, it contains: (1) discharge records for 201 streamflow-gaging stations, for 29 crest-stage, partial-record streamflow stations, and 48 miscellaneous sites; (2) stage and (or) content only records for 10 lakes and reservoirs; (3) water-quality records for 21 streamflow-gaging stations and 65 wells; and (4) water levels for 18 wells.

Arizona

Water resources data, Arizona, water year 2001

The Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with State agencies, obtains a large amount of data on the water resources of Arizona each water year. These data, accumulated during many water years, constitute a valuable database for developing an improved understanding of the water resources of the State. To make these data readily available to interested parties outside the USGS, the data are published annually in a report series entitled "Water Resources Data for Arizona."

Arizona

Water resources data, Arizona water year 1999

The Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with State agencies, obtains a large amount of data on the water resources of Arizona each water year. These data, accumulated during many water years, constitute a valuable data base for developing an improved understanding of the water resources of the State. To make these data readily available to interested parties outside the USGS, the data are published annually in a report series entitled "Water Resources Data for Arizona."

Arizona

Water resources data, Arizona, water year 1998

Water discharge data for the 1998 water year for Arizona consist of records of stage, discharge, and water quality of streams; stage, contents, water quality of lakes and reservoirs; water levels of observation wells; and quality of ground water. This report contains discharge records for 167 gaging stations, annual peaks for 27 crest-stage partial-record stations; contents only records for 8 lakes and reservoirs; stage and (or) contents for 1 lake; elevation only for 1 streamflow station; included with gaging-station records, consisting of monthend or monthly stage, contents, and evaporation of lakes and reservoirs, diversions, and return flows; water-quality records for 14 continuous-record stations; water-quality data for water from 188 wells. The data represent that part of the National Water Data System operated by the U.S. Geological Survey cooperating Federal and State agencies in Arizona.

Water resources data, Arizona water year 1996

The Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with State agencies, obtains a large amount of data pertaining to the water resources of Arizona each water year. These data, accumulated during many water years, constitute a valuable data base for developing an improved understanding of the water resources of the State. To make these data readily available to interested parties outside the Geological Survey, the data are published annually in this report series entitled "Water Resources Data for Arizona."

Summary of ground-water conditions in Arizona, 1987-90

Annual ground-water withdrawals in Arizona were 2.9, 3.3, 3.6, and 3.4 million acre-feet for calendar years 1987. 1988, 1989, and 1990. The average annual ground-water withdrawal for Arizona from 1980-89 was 3.7 million acre-feet, which was the lowest average annual withdrawal for any decade since the 1940' s. Since 1947, annual ground-water withdrawals in Arizona were at the lowest rate in 1983 and at the second lowest rate in 1987. For 1987-90, the distribution of ground-water use was 11.8 percent for municipal, 8.3 percent for industnal, 72.6 percent for agriculture, and 7.3 percent for draining irrigated lands. More than 94 percent of the ground-water withdrawals in Arizona occurred in the Basin and Range lowlands province during 1987-90. This province contains the two areas with the largest rates of ground-water withdrawal in Arizona--the Salt River Valley and the lower Santa Cruz basin. The average annual ground-water withdrawal for the Salt River Valley from 1980-89 is 1,013,000 acre-feet, which is the lowest average annual withdrawal for any decade since the 1930 's. Ground-water withdrawals in the lower Santa Cruz basin during 1990 were the lowest on record since 1940. In 1985, the Central Arizona Project began delivering Colorado River water to central Arizona to mitigate ground-water overdraft. The Harquahala basin began receiving water from the Central Arizona Project in 1985. From 1985 to 1990, ground-water withdrawals decreased from 59,000 acre-feet to 2,000 acre-feet, and water levels rose as much as 70 feet.
