Water-level altitudes 1995 and water-level changes 1990-95 and 1994-95 in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers, Fort Bend County and adjacent areas, Texas

This report is one in an annual series of reports that depicts altitudes of water levels and water-level changes since 1990 in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in Fort Bend Subsidence District, presents the approximate altitude of water levels (figs. 1, 4), January-February 1995, and approximate changes in water levels (figs. 2, 3, 5, 6), 1990-95 and 1994-95, in each of the aquifers. The most recent previously published water-level altitude maps for the aquifers are by Locke (1993), and the most recent previously published water-level change maps for the aquifers are by Coplin and Santos (1994). The earliest water-level altitude maps and the earliest water-level change maps for the Chicot aquifer are by Wesselman (1972). The first maps of water-level altitudes and water-level changes for the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers are by Locke (1990).

This report is one in a series of reports that depict water-level changes since 1977 and compaction of subsurface material since 1973. The report was prepared in cooperation with the City of Houston and the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, and presents maps showing the approximate changes in water levels in wells completed in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers, 1977-94 and 1993-94 (figs. 1-4), extensometer site locations (fig. 5), and measured compaction, 1973-93 (fig. 6), in the Houston-Galveston region. Water-level change maps were prepared previously by Kasmarek and others (1993). The Houston-galveston region includes Harris and Galveston Counties and adjacent parts of Brazoria, Fort Bend, Waller, Montgomery, Liberty, and Chambers Counties.

Open-File Report

Records of wells, drillers' logs, water-level measurements, and chemical analyses of ground water in Harris and Galveston Counties, Texas, 1984-89

Data for water wells and ground water in Harris and Galveston Counties were collected during 1984-89 by the U.S. Geological Survey. This report presents a compilation of records for 243 wells in Harris and Galveston Counties and drillers' logs for 174 of these wells. Water-level data and chemical-quality data of water for new and previously inventoried wells were also collected. Water levels in 521 wells and chemical analyses of water from 249 wells are presented in this report.

Texas

Land-surface subsidence resulting from ground-water withdrawals in the Houston-Galveston region, Texas, through 1987

The ground-water system in the Houston-Galveston region, Texas is composed of layers of sand and compressible clay. The system has been divided into two major aquifers, the Chicot and Evangeline, and the underlying Burkeville confining unit. The Chicot aquifer overlies the Evangeline aquifer. The Chicot aquifer contains the most permeable sand layers and also the more compressible clay layers.

Texas

Approximate altitude of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas, spring 1989

This report shows the altitudes of water levels in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston metropolitan area, Texas. Of the 425 wells measured, 307 were used to construct the maps of potentiometric surface. The Chicot and Evangeline aquifers are composed of several sand layers, each with a separate potentiometric surface. These maps, however, show a single potentiometric surface which represents the collective water levels for the sand layers comprising each aquifer. Maps showing the altitudes of water levels have been published in many reports on ground-water development in the Houston area, the most recent of which (Gabrysch and others, 1988) presented maps of the altitudes of potentiometric surfaces for 1988.

Texas

Approximate water-level changes in wells completed in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers, 1977-89 and 1988-89, and measured compaction, 1973-89, in the Houston-Galveston region, Texas

This report presents data on water-level changes in the Chinot and Evangeline aquifers during 1977-89 and 1988-89 and data on measured compaction during 1973-89. Measurements of water level in 307 wells were used to construct the maps showing water-level changes. Compaction data were obtained from 12 wells equipped with compaction monitors at 11 sites.

Texas

Approximate altitude of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas, spring 1988

Two maps show water levels in wells in the Houston, Texas, area in the Chicot aquifer and the Evangeline aquifer, spring 1988. Both the Chicot and the Evangeline aquifers are composed of several sand layers with different potentiometric surfaces. These maps, however, show approximations of single potentiometric surfaces that represent composite hydraulic heads. (USGS)

Open-File Report

Approximate altitude of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas, spring 1987

The purpose of this report, which was prepared in cooperation with the City of Houston and the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, is to show the altitudes of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston, Texas, metropolitan area. Open-File Report

Records of wells, drillers' logs, water-level measurements, and chemical analyses of ground water in Harris and Galveston Counties, Texas, 1980-84

Information on major new water wells in Harris and Galveston Counties was compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey from 1980 to 1984. This report presents the results of the hydro!ogic data collection on new large-capacity and other selected wells, including well location and completion data, drillers 1 logs of the strata penetrated, water levels, and chemical quality of the produced water. These water-well data are supplementary to similar data on older wells in these counties and to descriptive evaluations of the ground-water resources which have been published previously.
