Cartographic technical standards on the Apple Macintosh

The "Cartographic Technical Standards on the Apple Macintosh" (CTS) is a set of stand-alone information programs developed at the Branch of Western Technical Reports. It was designed to provide on-line current cartographic technical information to Macintosh users who use both PostScript and QuickDraw graphics applications to design page-size and map-size illustrations. The programs were generated to help improve the quality and reduce the cost and production time of the illustrations. The information can be printed by selecting a print menu item. The user first accesses the cartographic information by double clicking on an appropriate icon that represents the general topic and then selecting the specific information that is to be displayed on the screen from a menu. The cartographic information can also be accessed by placing the CTS Master Menu program in the Apple Menu (System 7 only). By placing an alias of the CTS Master Menu in the Apple Menu, the cartographic information is then made available from within other programs that are used to create illustrations. The CTS information contains both textual and pictorial data. The textual data contains specific information on fonts, line weights, sizes, and more. The pictorial data (raster format) shows examples of type styles and sizes, type placement, and sample layouts. All measurements are listed in millimeters, inches, and points. System requirements: The programs will run on any Macintosh with at least 4 MB of RAM (8 MB preferred), a 20-MB hard disk, and an operating system version 6.0.5 or higher.
