An index of geophysical well logging in Virginia by the U.S. Geological Survey

Geophysical logs have been obtained in more than 170 wells in Virginia by the U.S. Geological Survey since 1968. These logs include natural gamma, electric, caliper, temperature, fluid conductivity, and fluid velocity. Most of the logs are for wells in the Coastal Plain Province of eastern Virginia. Geophysical logs aid in the interpretation of properties of earth materials, including the capacity to store and transmit water in the immediate vicinity of the well bore.

Potentiometric-surface map for the Cretaceous aquifer, Virginia coastal plain, 1978

The Atlantic Coastal Plain of Virginia includes 9,600 square miles--all or part of 40 counties east of the Fall Line. The undifferentiated Cretaceous sediments underlying this area are the most productive and extensive source of ground water, from which large withdrawals have been made over the past 40 years. In 1978, withdrawals exceeded 100 million gallons per day. To determine the effect of continued withdrawals, annual synoptic water levels for 1978 were used to prepare a map showing the approximate configuration of the potentiometric surface. (USGS)

Hydrogeologic data for the Farmington River basin, Connecticut

This report contains hydrologic and geologic data collected and compiled as part of a water resources investigation of the Farmington River basin, Connecticut. The study was made by the U.S. Geological Survey in fiscal cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. A companion report, Connecticut Water Resources Bulletin No. 29 (in preparation), contains the interpretation of ground-water, quality-of-water, and surfacewater data collected for the study.
